Our remedial action capabilities include:

Remedial Action Work Plan (RAWP) Preparation: Remedial action begins with a Bay West-prepared RAWP that gets approved by the client and the regulatory agency(ies). Bay West’s remedial action follows the RAWP closely. There are other reports generated for the other activities related to the remedial action, such as Construction Completion Reports, Groundwater Monitoring Reports, etc.
Regulatory Collaboration: Bay West works with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies to determine the best remedial action for the site based on remedial time frame, cost-effectiveness, minimum contingencies in achieving site closure and minimal impact to human health and the environment.
Contaminant Treatment and Removal: We use advanced and innovative remedial technologies and methods to effectively treat or remove contaminants from sediment/soil, groundwater, and air.
System Installation and Construction (if part of the remedial approach): We build the infrastructure necessary for remediation, from treatment systems to containment measures.
Remedial Process Monitoring and Maintenance: We implement long-term monitoring programs to assess the effectiveness of the remedial actions and make necessary adjustments to meet remedial goals for the site.
Sediment: We assess contamination levels and guide remediation strategies in aquatic environments.

Recent Remediation Experience

PFAS Destruction Using Supercritical Water Oxidation

In partnership with General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS), Bay West is exploring the viability and cost-efficiency of using supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) for treating per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Tests achieved a remarkable 99.94% reduction in PFAS highlighting SCWO’s potential for effective PFAS destruction.

Eglin AFB Munitions Investigation and Removal

Bay West conducts munitions investigation and removal at Eglin Air Force Base, allowing the site to be continuously utilized for training. Bay West collaborated with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other state and federal agencies to provide military munitions support.

St. Louis River Area of Concern Remediation

The St. Louis River and Duluth/Superior Harbor have historically been polluted by industries like logging and papermaking. Bay West has been a key partner with local and state agencies in addressing comprehensive cleanup plan aimed at restoring the area.

Superior Plating Remediation and Oversight

The largest plating facility in the Midwest was closed due to soil and groundwater contamination. Bay West is pivotal in providing support and oversight for the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and its cleanup efforts.
